The traditional sucker rod is a rigid sucker rod with couplings. Most sucker rod strings failures are related to the couplings. The failures are caused by improper handling, improper make up of the connections, and the unavoidable loading of the coupling against the tubing wall. The frictional wear is amplified by the shape of the couplings because their diameter is much larger than that of the rod. Traditionally, the entire side load of the well is rested on the small coupling area. But no coupling is required for the carbon fiber flexible sucker rod so that it allows side load to be distributed across the entire rod string.

Material
The matrix body is ethylene resin produced by pultrusion process. The core is carbon fiber. The upper and lower surfaces are covered with glass fiber cloth to improve the transverse strength of the carbon fiber sucker rod. The left and right sides and corners are covered with aramid fiber cloth or glass fiber cloth to improve the wear resistance of the sucker rod.
Structure
The structure of the carbon fiber sucker rod is shown in below.
A reinforcing belt made of carbon fiber composite material is pasted on both surfaces and threaded holes are drilled. One end of the steel joint complies with the API sucker rod specification to connect with the steel sucker rod and sucker rod. The other end is provided with a groove and an internal threaded hole. Insert the end of the carbon fiber sucker rod into the groove of the steel joint and fix it with thread.
Operation
The carbon fiber sucker rod operation equipment is vehicle mounted. The roller loaded with the carbon fiber sucker rod is supported on the bearing seat of the roller support, and the roller support is fixed on the motor vehicle. The horse transport drives the cylinder through the reducer and gear mechanism, and the carbon fiber sucker rod is lowered into or taken out of the well through the guide wheel. Adjust the position of the truck, align the tail with the wellhead, jack up the jack and position the truck. Align the rod with the oil pipe through the guide wheel. Special slips are installed at the wellhead to clamp or loosen the carbon fiber sucker rod.
When installing the sucker rod string, first use the ordinary oil well operation equipment to lower a certain length of steel sucker rod or weighting rod into the well, then connect the steel joint at the lower end of the carbon fiber sucker rod with the steel sucker rod or weighting rod, then use the carbon fiber sucker rod oil well operation equipment to lower the carbon fiber sucker rod into the well at the speed of 15-20m/min, and finally connect the ordinary bare rod with the steel joint at the upper end of the carbon fiber sucker rod.
